OLOYEDE MUST BE FIRED BY WHYTE HABEEB

THIS IS TRULY NIGERIAN..GOOD PEOPLE, GREAT NATION

As Mrs. Olufolake Oyeyemi (The Registrar of UNILORIN) announced that Prof.  Abdulganiyu Ambali has been appointed the Vice Chancellor-designated of the institution. She announced this after a special senate meeting at the council chambers of the University on Thursday 26th of July, 2012.
The announcement of Prof. Ambali as the Vice chancellor elect came as no surprise to many students because many had known him to be a man of high intellect and a good administrator to the core. However many are not happy that the man who gave UNILORIN the best would vacate the seat as Vice Chancellor UNILORIN by October 15th, 2012. The students demands that the Federal Government must fire Prof. Ishaq Oloyede to the top. These were the comments from students of the University across social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, 2go and Blackberry Messenger.

Speaking on this is  Abdulkadri Aminat, 200l Microbiology said when I heard that Oloyede would be leaving, I was not happy at first but later I concluded that he had to go and replicate his kind act of leadership in other sectors of the society( if given a chance). Oloyede with his act of leadership elevated UNILORIN from its embryonic level to an institution of national and international prominence which now receives UTME applications twice that of some universities that were created along with it in 1975. Take a look at the Computer Based Test initiative, it is superb. UNILORIN was the first University that started the use of CBT in schools. Believe me, other Universities have followed suit. Some lecturers once complained that it took them months to mark scripts and record them but with the advent of CBT, things have been made easier. The idea of CBT was seen as local idea but when it became a prototype for other universities, it is now a national business. Though he had his own flaws but he is the kind of leaders Nigeria needs to grow.

Amubikan Saleem, 500l law, said that Prof Oloyede to some people is a good administrator while some see him as a dictator. Both views are correct to me.  Oloyede really tried for Unilorin, under him Unilorin has been rated the best university in Nigeria twice and the school has been among the top four since then.  The school is preferred among admission seekers because of its uninterrupted academic calendar. He is a clerisy with great intellectual depth and cerebral quality. The funny thing is that Oloyede is a typical example of a whole UNILORITE. He is a Unilorin graduate and has shown the world what a unilorite can do when employed.  The University has witnessed massive transformation in physical infrastructure and modern building designs. The academic development under him has not taken a back seat. He met nine faculties and right now we already have thirteen faculties and we are still counting. There has been a development as to the Open Courseware System which has made teaching so easier. Maintaining a cult-free institution appears to be a herculean task. Some institutions went as far as granting amnesty to cultists but with a person of administrative sagacity at the helm of affairs, cultism has been thrown to the trash bin at UNILORIN. He demonstrated some dictatorial tendency by making the students’ union officers a toothless bulldog. They can only bark but not bite and thus making the union less attractive to the real "activist". On a whole he has put his name on the sand of time and cannot be forgotten in a hurry in the history of Unilorin. He should be promoted

Adetona Adejumo, 500l law said He got the mantle of leadership of the school and has the mandate to steer the leadership vessel of Unilorin for a single tenure of 5 years, the man an astute islamic scholar blazed the trail with a very high level of discipline he became the scourge of lazy and non-chalant staff. He gave the running of the university system a human face, the school became known as the better by far, but all this happened at what cost to the school and students of the institution, some people will still argue that the university is better from afar and not better by far and this is because of the many hardship faced by students. Firstly he introduced the online registration process that was supposed to make registration easier and better for the students but this in turn turned into a very big headache for the students as the system had many teething problems, with students not been able to register or even log in into the school website that for the first year was more offline than online. I remember that we were promised to be paid the sum of 200 naira to offset the problems faced by students but till date no one was paid any money. I even remember some students in my class clamoring to sue the school authority over the amount promised. I remember writing an examination slated for 2pm at the computer based test at 12am in the morning because of hitches, the man determined to bring change and yes we got that change, now the era of student having missing scripts is far gone, we see our results as soon as possible, the man oloyede brought discipline even though many of us as students frown at some of his ideas but today we are better  for it, the school became ranked as number in Nigeria for the first time ever and we remained there for a while the university became courted by many aspiring students.

The university though a colossus in the academic section by winning many awards but the social life of the students was zero most especially in the aspect of sports, the school hosted the West African University games but Unilorin had a below average performance as the school was not part of the table toppers and there was a dismal performance in many games like table tennis, hand ball, even on the track and field events, but the hosting was top class as visitors trooped into the school daily to watch the games I even knew people that travelled all the way from Abuja, Ibadan and other places too to come and watch the games. The administration of prof oloyede was an all-encompassing administration but despite it trying to achieve all it achieved much and the students will forever be grateful for having such and astute academic as a vice chancellor, in academics the school achieved much but in terms in sports yes there were a few scattered achievements but not that much and in terms of socials that is a no go area.

Lanre AbduL, 500L Law said the introduction of identity card and tag to both staffs and student of the institution to face out touts, fake students and staffs is a laudable thing.  It has been used to differentiate between the staff and the students and the students of various faculties of the institution. In fact, it was after the introduction of the identity card by the present administration in the school community that makes other institutions of learning in the state to follow suit(primary and secondary schools inclusive) some Government ministries and parastatals has  also see it as a good development by following the trend. Another laudable achievement of the outgoing administration was the introduction of computer based examination (CBT) to general courses to combat the menace of missing grades and missing script that is very common in the institution before the introduction of CBT. The CBT was used to conduct post JAMB. It has also improved effective release of results within twenty four hours after the conduct of the examination. The use of computer to write exams was first introduced to Nigeria system by Professor Oloyede which so many tertiary institutions has followed suit.

The outgoing administration also improved in the building of more lecture rooms and offices for staffs and students so as to improve the learning facilities and environment for learning. The newly built lecture rooms are the Faculty of Law lecture rooms, Geology lecture room and offices of staffs in the departments, offices of staffs and ultra-modern lab for the Geography students, offices of staffs and lecture room for students in the faculty of Communication and information Science. The administrations has also improved the facilities in the school stadium to a world class standard for the students of human kinetics and other student that what to keep their body and soul together. Another notable achievement of the administration is the introduction of new faculties and courses like Pharmaceutical science, Vet nary medicine, Mass communications, nursing, library and information sciences and some others.

The administration also builds a radio station for effective communication and for training the Mass communication students to become the best in their choosing profession. Another notable record of the V.C is that for the past few years, the school has been able to inculcate and instill high level of discipline on both its students and staffs. This has assisted in curbing examination malpractices, cultism   as well as improving students’ Dress Code. In the school, any student found guilty of any malpractice(s) will be automatically sent off i.e. “TO FACE TANKE” while students with indecent dressing will face disciplinary panel (presided by Professor QADRI). The students of university of Ilorin are notorious for being discipline and level headed right from the administration of Professor SHUAIB OBA ABU to the period of the present administration. I therefore urge the federal government to please create a place for Prof. Oloyede at the top.

Yusuf Tojola, 100l Law, said although, I became a student of this noble university just last year. Within this period of time have spent in this micro society; I have seen and can tell little about the Ishaq Oloyede lead administration. His administration pioneered the CBT in Nigeria, this has helped made examination easier and faster, it has enabled quick release of results after exams. His admin has ensured unbroken academic calendar, he has constructed at least a building in each faculty, created new research centres like centre for peace and strategic studies, research and technical centre etc. The construction of a new stadium and the successful holding of WAUG, prompt release of certificates, improvement of PHD program among others. He is a kind of leader that we need at the top.

The students admire Prof. Oloyede and learn from him whenever they can. They would love to, in their humble capacities, make people smile and this makes them hope that their Vice Chancellor would too! He has no doubt, set enviable records; his impeccable integrity has made him someone to be reckoned with and has earned him great reverence. He is fearless but humble, confident but modest. His giant strides at UNILORIN will forever be remembered and his footprints will be indelibly stamped in the sands of time. When he’s gone, we will all miss him, our dear V.C says Muritala Hameed, 300l Mass Comm.

OLOYEDE MUST BE FIRED TO THE TOP
