THIS IS TRULY NIGERIAN..GOOD PEOPLE, GREAT NATION
Gimmie that lighter, make I blow this white London sharply and step it
down with this squaddy (Squardron gin) abeg, this statement is perhaps
attributable to a boy but surprisingly the statement was made by a
girl. This really evidenced the phrase what a man can do, a woman can
do better.
The above attribute is rampant among the 21st century ladies that
claim to be ladies as they engaged in so many things that guys do on
normal occasion. These ladies do better than guys because it is a
notorious fundamental fact devoid of parochial sentiment that ladies
are naturally prone to greatness than guys in various activities.
The phrase what a man can do, a woman can do better is a popular
accolade that is used to exonerate the female folks for their
outstanding performances and for encouragement purposes. So many
ladies have proved to be better in all ramifications compared to that
of the male folks. Some perform exceptionally than imagined in
activities that ordinarily they cannot do well. Some ladies have
proved in recent time in Nigeria and in the world entirely that they
are better off. Some participates in sports activities, managerial
skills, leadership positions, music etc.
Ladies like Prof. Dora Akinyuli, Mary Onyali, Madam Tinubu, Perpetual
Nwokocha etc are examples of ladies that have made it
exceptionally in their respective ways and endeavours. As laudable as
these ladies are in their various departments of life, some university
ladies are not looking up to them as examples but rather chose another
way of life that is usually common among their male counterparts and
become outstanding in them. It is shocking to hear that ladies seeking
high life or cheap popularity now smoke cigarettes, Indian hemp, drink
alcohol, club, gamble, prostitution, draw tattoos, cheat during
examination, cultism, sag their trousers, low haircuts, gang beat boys
etc.
The above behaviours or acts are prevalent among boys but today the
reverse is the case as the ladies have proven to be better. I
investigates further on what might be the cause of all these acts.
Speaking to on what might be the cause or the motivating
factor for these ladies who indulge in the above act is Adekunle
Ololade, Accounting OND, Mapoly said she was not surprised at this
because she knew it would definitely happen because the environment
itself encourages such acts. She spoke further that if the government
had live up to their responsibility by ensuring that the youths of
today were empowered, most of the girls involved would not have fallen
a victim of what she call environmental pressure. Naturally a girl has
every tendency to be the best at whatever she does; these girls behave
like boys because they believe the boys are making a way out of it but
it is a tragedy to our generation she concluded. For Haleemah Giwa,
500L Law UNILORIN, she thinks that the reason why these acts are
prevalent among the female folks nowadays is because of peer
influence, lack of home training and having bad guys as friends. She
believes that parents or guardian should monitor their children and
when they get to higher institutions, they should try and keep good
eye on them and she implore the members of the society to find a way
to curb girls that do these bad habits around them. Persuasive mode of
correction should be adopted while doing this she concluded. Dayo
Akinola, 200L Economics UNILORIN, Women should imitate men in mental
and physical agility that men are known for rather than in corruption
and gambling. Some women have brought shame to the womenfolk for
exhibiting traits that are alien to women. The ‘Ettehgate’ scandal and
a former bank executive convicted of corruption are testament to this
fact. Alabede Surajdeen, 100l Geography said it is disheartening that
this 21st century of ours cannot boast of young ladies with virtues.
Ladies now smokes, drink, sag their trousers, act porn movies, steal
and do a lot of bad things that are naturally common among the male
folks. These ladies do better because they have all tendencies to be
good in everything they do. You can draw an inspiration from the cases
of Patricia Etteh and Cecilia Ibru. These were ladies that held high
positions in this country and eventually let the country down by
various alleged corrupt practices. This evidenced the kind of
generation of ladies we are breeding. Ladies are known naturally for
good deeds but the influence of friends and the society they find
themselves cannot be over emphasized. The films they watch also have
effect on them. If you check most Nigerian movies this days, it
portrays actress acting various roles of a lady living a big life
wherein they smoke, were obnoxious dresses, draw tattoos on various
sensitive parts of their bodies etc when these girls sees this, they
get encourage and follow suit or copy the pattern of the actress role
in a movie. The Nigeria Nollywood sector should be wary of the
different roles actresses’ interprets in movies so that girls would
not be encourage to do such things they see in the movies any longer.
Onimisi Joseph 100l, law was of the view that he wonders what tomorrow
holds because he cannot imagine he would end up marrying a girl of his
generation one day and keep her as a wife. These bad habits are
apparent as so many of them do not hide it again and those that do,
are not always cautious. If you go to parties especially the ones
organised by students you see all these girls smoking and doing
various sorts. You begin to wonder that whether or not a man would end
up keeping these girls at home. They do all this in the name of ‘BIG
GIRLISM” and they end up destroying their future and blaming others
for their ineffectiveness in life. Have always live up to believe that
girls should be the ones that would be discouraging guys from all
these habits but now I know from what have seen around they are the
real and effective perpetrators of all these devilish acts. Go to the
prison yards and see for yourself. For Oladotun Damilare Agricultural
Science 200l, OAU he believes the background of most of the girls that
have taken over from the guys is faulty. Most of them are not always
exposed at home and when they get to school they tends to get exposed
in the negative manner. Most parents should allow their girls to know
the hazards that are involve in these things and should monitor them
to the higher institution level. The Non Governmental Organizations
especially the ones that deals with girls and women affairs should
please rise up to the challenge and bring an end to the menace in the
society. The university doorsteps should be the kickoff of the
campaign against these habits from girls. He said it is unimaginable
for a girl to be part of a secret society or for a girl to be seen at
various bars drinking. This is not a good trait and the boys that do
all these should please stop because these girls derive their
motivation from them. They more they see them do these things; they
more they also do it and make them become their masters. All hands
must be on deck to stop this menace because these ladies are
tomorrow’s mothers and nation builders. He concluded. For Sadir
Luqman, 200l Law Unilorin, he said women in the past are known for
virtues but these days the result is the other way round. It is
everyday we read on the pages of newspapers, listen to the radio and
watch various reports on the television the rate at which ladies
especially the young ones perpetjate evil and disgusting things that
the meen do on ordinary days. The Pastors and Imam should please wake
up to the reality of today by preaching to the various women and
ladies in their various place of worship because these gender that we
are talking about constitute 80% of their church members and workers.
