ACN postpones National Convention over Oshiomhole’s wife death - Cancels Kwara and Taraba congresses

THIS IS TRULY NIGERIAN..GOOD PEOPLE, GREAT NATION

The National Convention Committee of the Action Congress of Nigeria has announced the postponement of the party’s National Convention. This was contained in a statement signed on Thursday (today) by the Chairman, Dr. Chris Ngige, after a meeting of the Committee in Benin City.

The Convention which was scheduled to hold on the 16th of December 2010 was postponed out of respect for Governor Adams Oshiomole of Edo state who lost his wife, Clara, to cancer on Tuesday. The convention will now hold on the 21st of December in Benin City, Edo state.

Meanwhile, the Party’s Convention Committee has cancelled the Ward and Local government council congresses held on the 2nd and the 6th of December respectively in both Kwara and Taraba states. In addition, the National Convention Committee has dissolved the executive committees of the party in the two states.

The party said the dates for fresh ward, local government and state congresses in the two affected states would be announced later.
It said caretaker committees are to be put in place to steer the affairs of the party pending the conduct of ward, local government and state congresses in the states, in accordance with the party's guidelines.
“The congresses in Kwara state had to be cancelled as armed thugs carted away all the party registers, which are like the voter's register and without which elections cannot be successfully conducted on Friday the 3rd of December at the party headquarters in Ilorin Kwara state. The matter is currently being investigated by the police.”

In Taraba, the National Convention Committee said, there was no level playing ground for all the stakeholders during the congresses of the 2nd and 6th of December.

The Committee said that since the ACN is a party that prides itself on fairness, justice and equity, the decision was taken to restore confidence in the minds of everyone and in furtherance of the party's ethos.
